 DVD of John Halligan’s

Presentation

John Halligan‘s presentation to our students had a strong impact. Many

students have commented how it has caused them to think more closely

about their actions and understand much more about bullying. It also

empowered numerous students to stand up for themselves and expect to be

respected. Kids are still talking about the assembly.

Are you interested in seeing John Halligan’s talk that your children saw,

about the story of his son being bullied and how his family dealt with the

tragedy of his son’s suicide?

If you  want to borrow the DVD

please contact Caryn Olivetti at 652-7104 or colivetti@sbschools.net

A Tragic Story
John Halligan came to FHTMS on March 31st. We were very fortunate to have such a great
speaker in here to tell his tragic story. Within his very close family they experienced a major bullying tragedy. John’s son, Ryan was only 13 years old when he committed suicide on October 7th2003. Ryan was bullied at school and online. In the fifth grade is when all the bullying started. They would bully him about his academic weaknesses and many other things. In 6th grade the bullying was on and off so his parents weren’t too concerned. When he was in 7th grade though the bullying worsened! Surely enough, the kids that had bullied Ryan in 5th grade were the main bullies in middle school too. With all this bullying going on, Ryan finally couldn’t handle it and tragically took his life! Many of the students around the world don’t realize how much bullying can impact others lives. After, John comes to speak with our school we are all hoping that it will bring a new understanding about what the affects of bullying can be. Please take everything that John Halligan said seriously. It could be you in the shoes of a kid that is being bullied one day, so help stop it now.

If any Tuttle student would like to put something on our Peer Leadership Wiki:

Please either send it to a Peer Leadership student (and they will put it on) or email it to Caryn Olivetti at colivetti@sbschools.net.

You can send it in the summer too! You can contribute an idea of a fun activity, poem, picture, book review or any other information that you think other kids would want to see.  You can include your name on the wiki or not. Thanks!
